Maya and Linda are two women who both have to deal with their own problems.
Linda is a teacher, from around her 50's. She stays behind when her husband decided to get a divorce. She doesn't want to admit it to herself that they are breaking up however, and she's making herself miserable.
Maya, a young black girl, was adopted by two men. But her dads are breaking up as well after it comes out that one of them has had an affair. One of the fathers stays at home and when Maya talks to him the next day, he leashes out all his anger on her. Telling her that she was more an asset than his child.
On the parents' evening at school, Maya enters Lindas classroom alone because her fathers were not intereset or gone. She tells her teacher how her parents are getting a divorce and how she is struggling with that. Linda answers with understanding, because she is divorcing her husband as well.
After the meeting, Maya tells her that she is not planning on going home, ever again. And for one night, Linda takes Maya with her.
Linda calls her (ex)-husband to tell him she's alright with the situation now, and that she will agree to his terms.
After that, we see the two women going to sleep with a smile on their faces for the first time.
