During the corona-lockdown, the city of Anderlecht opened 'Hotel Maria' to people without a place of residence in order to prevent the further spread of the virus. So the corona crisis brought something positive for them. It was short lived: from the end of March 2020 to the end of June 2020.
A hotel is an intermediate place, an inter-, a passage place. A corridor too. And staying at the hotel was for them a passage in their lives. Many of them lived on the street before and most likely ended up back on the streets. What happened in this "interspace"? There was a story behind every door of the hotel. Normally they are surviving. Some of them hadn't slept in a bed for decades. Now that they suddenly had everything (personal shower, television, wifi, cleaning crew, food, etc.), they were no longer concerned with survival. Suddenly there was room for rest, reflection, looking ahead to the future and relaxation. They each occupied themselves with their little things. That usually happened behind the closed doors of the hotel. I made my passage in the hotel and filmed three specific moments in a life.
